Letter sent to the Minnesota Miniature Gamers Mailing List:

On August 16th, in celebration of Jim Fitzgerald's (AKA Fitz)Birthday, the Centurions will be hosting a 25mm Napoleonic Game atthe Source Comics and Games using the Napoleonic "Wilderness Wars"variant.

Our goal is to see how many thousands of 25mm Figures wecan get on the table. The Game will start at 11 AM and everyone is invited to play as always with a Centurions' game there is no cost to play, no experience is necessary and figures will be provided; however if you have figures bring them down.

PS If you have figures for this game we are going to be extremely flexible in regards to basing as long as you are within the ballpark (or some semblance of) it okay with us. We will just ask you to adjust your formations.

As for specific period or campaign of the Napoleonic Wars anywherefrom 1792 to 1824 works for us.

Letter to Centurions

Here is a letter I sent to the Centurions Mailing List.

Hey Gang,

This is a reminder for Fitz’s birthday game at the Source Comics and Games on August 16th. We will be playing a “Wilderness Wars” variant for the Napoleonic Period using 25mm figures.

For this game any figures from any campaign or front of the Napoleonic Wars is totally acceptable for us. We have multiple goals for this session, we would like to see how many figures are currently painted, the basing used and to see which periods and/or campaigns people are interested in. So if you have Revolutionary War Austrians, French from the 1806 campaign, Austrians from 1809, Americans from the War of 1812, Russian Cossacks, Ottoman Turks, or anything else related to the period bring it to the game on the 16th.

I do ask that if you know that you are going to be bringing troops to please send me an email. I will be working on rosters and painting up figures for whichever side “appears” to be short troops over the next couple weeks.

I already have heard from several of you but if you would send me an updated list that is pretty close to what you have it would be greatly appreciated.
Fitz: British and Russian (need counts)
Joel: 1809 Austrians and French (An updated list would be great)
Me: Austrian, French and French Allied
Keith: A French Brigade (Any additional figures?)
Possibly - Tom Z. French and Russian. (Going to make an appearance?)
Rumored – Kevin MacDonald (Any truth to those rumors?)

Additionally during the day Fitz and I would like to discuss the possibility of some scenario specific battles starting with the Campaign of 1809 including Wagram in 25mm; of course rules would need to be determined.

Incompetence at work

Okay,

So on Saturday I check with the staff of the Source about the summer availability for our games, considering they have two huge "World Wide D&D Day" signs up and they are the World HQ for the event on June 7th.

"Nope, you guys still have the Sandtable"

Today we get the notice on the Minnesota Miniature Gamers Email list from John Nordling that "Sorry Guys that World Wide D&D Day so no game on the 7th" so either Nordling is wrong about the availabilty or wrong on Saturday whether we have the table or not.

My bet is they forgot to kick us off the Sandtable until after we make the public announcement and someone decided to actually look at what they have on the schedule. Such a simple process.

Spent the morning looking at my Crusader figures that I currently own:

Of course I need 12 of each mounted figures so I guess it will be a purchase in my near future.

June 7th's game is kind of what are we going to do. Jeff Knudsen is still out and I am not 100% sure I can make it so we put out a generic 15mm Napoleonics game, sure to draw six to eight players.

June 21st is a special request by Eliiot James, Koenig Krieg with rules as written. I will be in Reedsburg so no involvement on my part.

July 5th is of course the Fourth of July weekend over the past couple of years we have been kicked out of the store for a magic game so we decided to tank the game early.

July 19th is a special request by Ray Knapp he would like to try Field of Glory new crusader supplement which of course fine with me. I have three half crusader armies that have never seen the battle field.

August 2nd is an open date so far, we have offered the game to Jeff Knudsen there is some hope he will do a riflewars game.

August 9th is Recon, I will be at Reserves so no Recon for me.

August 16th is our next big game, Fitz Birthday, so we are doing 25mm Napoleonics.

Finally our game on September 6th is 25mm AWI, I need to do another game, okay its an excuse to paint more AWI figures.

The Battle of Gordonsville

The battle of Gordonsville is a fictitious encounter during the early summer of 1781 in which George Washington’s Continentals give battle to Lord Cornwallis British forces.

The British were played by Fitz, Noel, and Jack while the Continentals were pushed Jim, Ray, and myself. The game was played on three tables with a two turn interconnection between the tables. The British find themselves between three Continentals armies. The main army of George Washington is made up of Lafayettes Light Corps and Lincolns Corps is on the Northern Edge facing Cornwallis main force with the Guard Brigade, Yorke’s and Dundas’ Brigades and the German Mercenaries. Lord Rawdon two Brigades are faced off against Count von Stueben’s Corp which is straggleing onto the battlefield on Table two. On Table three Tarleton’s three briadges of Loyalists are faced off against Chois’ Mixed corps of French and Continentals brigades.

In dawns early light the Gist's Maryland Brigade of Continentals look north at the massing British Forces across the field.

A look west along the French and New York lines against the British Loyalists.

Further along the line the Rhode Island Brigade looks north with the British Loyalist in Opposition.
On the northern side of the Battlefield the Continentals form the battleline.

The center of the Continental line is anchored by the Clinton's Marylan Brigade.

The western edge of the Continental line is made of 7 Battalions of Militia facing the German Mercenaries.

Lord Rawdon looks South at the Gist's Maryland Brigade.

A look at the Loyalist Battleline.

The German Mercenaries looking North at the Militia.

The Center of the British Line is the Guard Brigade. Two Battalions of Guard Infantry and a company of Grenadiers make a Rock of Gilbralter.

Yorke's Brigade has taken up position in the town of Gordonsville. Two stone walls tot he west of the town make a great defensive position, but Cornwallis is not known to be a defensive minded man.

Dundas' Brigade takes position on the right of the British battle line.
