Jeff's Gaming History (The Condensed Version)

I have spent more than four decades painting and pushing little toy soldiers around a table—or two—mostly here in the Twin Cities. I originally came into the hobby as a fantasy gamer, playing TSR's Battle System. As that system gradually fell out of favor, I made the transition to historical gaming, helped along the way by players such as Jim Fitzgerald and BJ Kersteter.

My primary interests are the American War of Independence, followed closely by the Napoleonic period. You probably wouldn't guess that by looking at my collection, however. My collection has grown into a rather wide and eclectic assortment of armies, periods, scales, and rules.

There is also no question that I am something of a megalomaniac when it comes to wargaming. I have an almost pathological desire to play big battles. Nothing in this hobby quite sets me free like standing at the edge of a table and looking across two thousand—or more—figures marching toward one another, knowing that in a few hours all those beautifully painted soldiers are going to collide in one glorious, completely unnecessary act of historical violence.
